Continuing Impact
When Leroy Williams selected the applied project for his Executive MBA Program, he chose to tackle a critical business issue for his company, Peerless Pumps.

As one of the top manufacturers of pumps to global markets, Peerless wanted to improve its operations by implementing lean enterprise philosophies and processes. Williams focused on turning a lean enterprise philosophy into a reality for Peerless.

The result is an enviable one: The project’s expected return after its first year of implementation was approximately $3 million. And the company continues to reap the benefits of the foundation that Williams laid for lean enterprise.

Recognizing his contribution, Peerless Pumps promoted Williams to general manager for the engineered and vertical pump business division.

The value of his degree to Williams and Peerless Pump merged into a win-win for both.

“It’s a big spotlight you put on yourself,” says Williams. “It definitely provides the stage to set yourself up for success. I think it put me in a position for a promotion without a doubt.”

With strong evidence to support the return on the investment for Peerless Pump, the company has sponsored other students and plans to continue supporting candidates in the future. In fact, Mike Cates, Williams’ boss, also completed an Executive MBA Program.

“In many ways the impact of the degree is immeasurable,” says Cates. “You can’t really measure the results of effective leadership. Leroy has been able to affect those he works with in a positive way. Everybody sees it, and it makes so much more possible.”
