New Doors
As senior vice president of finance and administration for a global division of DHL, Jared Pickering had reached the top rung of the ladder in finance. He decided to make a career shift.
“I realized I wanted to run the business, not just help support it,” says Pickering. “The Executive MBA has given me a leg up and shortened the learning curve.”
Armed with his Executive MBA education, Pickering quickly made his move. He continues to use the knowledge that he gained from his program as senior vice president of business development and strategy for the International Americas Region of DHL Express. He has recommended the program to others within DHL and also has hired an Executive MBA graduate.
Flexibility to Make Moves
The Executive MBA offers its students flexibility in the world of career moves.
For example, when Jan Begg wanted to pursue a broader business management role, she turned to an Executive MBA Program. During the program, she moved into a project and change management position, and after finishing her degree, she was asked to help establish a new project governance team for a major financial institution.
“The skills I had acquired during the Executive MBA Program helped me to navigate this significantly larger organization and provided much more strategic focus to my work,” says Begg.
Several years ago, she decided to launch her own consulting business. Assisting others to implement strategy, it provides an alternative approach to project governance through assessment, intervention, and coaching.
“My career journey continues, and the skills learned and the friendships established during the long hours of study are a continuing source of strength and inspiration.”
Transformations
A board-certified trauma and critical care surgeon, Terry Loftus entered the Executive MBA Program in 2007. “As an Executive MBA student, I began looking at health care though a different lens.”
That lens provided a transformational perspective that helped Loftus make a career transition from the clinical side to the business side of health care. Now chief medical officer at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Arizona, Loftus oversees patient safety and quality assurance initiatives, working with the medical staff to improve outcomes.
Executive MBA alumni talk about their time in the program as exhilarating, heady, and intense – one that changes the way they think about leadership, global business, problem solving, and team building. |
