Building an A-1 network
EMBA alumnus Laia Llunas understands the powerful nature of EMBA networking – it was her fellow student who helped her make the career transition that she desired.
Her peers also helped her accelerate her learning. “There was so much diversity of backgrounds and organizations,” says Llunas. “I was the youngest in the group, and they willingly shared their experiences with me.”
One colleague, a sales director, offered perspectives on generating sales, and another, a bank manager, opened her eyes to a view of management through financial numbers. While working in a small team on projects, she continued learning from other students. “We learned from each other.”
They also spent time together at dinner, in meetings, during class breaks – all of which helped them better understand each other and bond.
As a result of these bonds, EMBA students often form lifelong friendships and make connections with business leaders that can help advance their careers and that they can continue to tap throughout their careers.
Even though her organization offered Llunas a new position at the end of her program, she decided to accept a different offer from her fellow student who was starting a new business unit on medical device technology. She now manages the spin-off company. “It was really a good jump for me.”
Like many EMBA students, Llunas values her new EMBA network of peers.
“One of my goals in entering the program was to have this kind of network,” she says. “What I found was such an advantage to me and my work.” |
